Biology:
Wood, 2007: New tunnels were bored into recently felled trees 8-15 cm in diameter. This species is xylomycetophagous and inbreeds. The female bores a radial entrance tunnel 0.5-3 cm directly into the wood. She then makes a narrow tabular cavity above and/or below the entrance tunnel where she deposits clusters of eggs. The larvae expand the tabular cavity as they feed on the ambrosial fungus mycelium. Occasionally the female will extend the entrance tunnel and produce a second or third tabular cavity within the same gallery system. Mating occurs among siblings in the brood chamber. The young adults in the brood chamber exit the chamber through the parent entrance hole.
